The HP LTO Ultrium-compatible designed and manufactured to optimize both media and drive technology. HP experiment among different brands of LTO Ultrium 3 cartridges for data backup. Tests show that users of HP LTO3 Ultrium data cartridges twice the data storage for backup and was able to significantly improve reliability. HP branded LTO3 Ultrium data cartridges provided up to three times as many continuously successful backup and restore cycles. The price for HPLTO-3 Ultrium cartridge is less than other competing brands. Testing in extreme climatic conditions have the reliability of HP LTO Ultrium media, where the data have been accompanied by brass band in the world who survive in extreme conditions proved once again.
The test took four engineers cartridge LTO3 Ultrium RW. The two bands were from HP and two more from a leading brand and tested in four HP StorageWorks Ultrium 960 drives. Test, which is located in a controlled environmentEnvironment of 74 º C and a relative humidity of 15%.
In the first stage of the procedure, the cartridges through continuous to 100 volumes, 400 GB native capacity, backup and recovery cycles were fixed. This means that the total volume was 200 full-time operations. BER Bit Error Rate measured every 2 GB throughout the process.
Error rates of data to obtain the most informative measure of performance. The rate also applies to data, is made as the band, the signalCharacteristics of the group, the quality of the coating and the roughness of the surface. If the error is high, the incentive to work hard to ensure that data is saved or restored properly.
High error rate when the signal is loud and distorted. In the worst case error rate levels ultimately reach a point where it can not be corrected with the drive, errors, and data that can address all lost.
HP has developed a proprietary software for HP, this software actsas a powerful microscope and tape allows the user to analyze the performance of backup cycles, and again in much more detail than would otherwise be possible using off the shelf backup applications. To ensure that the results of the survey were too influenced by the performance of individual units which have been replaced the HP Ultrium LTO3 drive more with the other tape cartridges and labels for the second phase of trials.
In the second phasetests were tested again the full backup tape cartridges in 100 volumes of continuous, 400 GB native capacity. Backup, recovery cycles and the bit error rate was again measured every 2 GB throughout the process. This brought the total number of cycles of backup and recovery throughout the test at 400 (200 full-volume backup cycles and 200 full-volume restore cycles). The average error rates were then calculated for each full volume and any variation in performanceDuring the tests could then be easily determined by observing a change in the rate of error.
The results for each of the two HP LTO3 Ultrium cartridges, in each of the units were tested they were consistently low and stable error rates around the backup and restoration of 200 permanent 200 cycles continue. The amount of data is backed up each cycle also measured to ensure that the cartridge backup has always been to provide full maximum of 400 GB of data. Afterwriting 80,000 GB of data, in which the HP also offers the best performance and maximum capacity, without risk of data loss
The results for each of the other two cartridges brand leader in each of the units were tested in which they were more consistent, but showed a very different picture. After just 30 full backup and 30 restore cycles, less than a third of the way through the first phase of testing began to affect performance. After no more than 60 permanent backupRestoration and 60 cycles, error rates were so high in both cartridges, that was no longer possible to complete a full 400-GB backup.
Two different types of errors occurred during the tests. These failures have been directly the poor performance error rate. Both types of bankruptcy means that it was not possible to back up to a maximum of 400 GB of data. The first type of error occurred, after reaching the end of the band before the full capacity of 400 GB BackupOperation.
Several repeated attempts to write to some of the original data were needed, with a larger volume with the other leading brand cartridges has led, as was necessary when using the HP-branded backup media. The second type of disorder was also stand for the low error rate performance of the cartridges of other brands in context. However, this type of defect, in which it was not possible to verify the accuracy of the data written, even after repeated attempts, so that theTravel destined to fail and to cancel the backup operation completely. Both types of failures meant a cleaning cartridge may be used before the test procedure will be continued.
The available capacity at times with only 50% of the total capacity will be worse before they are used at the end of the tape. Other leading brand cartridges have not completed the 100 backup and restore 100 cycles in one of two disks that are tested.
The high error rates can be: Lead
– Cartridge of small capacity, so you buy more cartridges for backup
– Same amount of data.
– Error in backup and recovery because there are too many errors to be corrected. You will lose your data.
– The most frequent use of a cleaning cartridge.
– Lower speeds (ie less energy) because the drive to keep trying to rewrite or reread the same user data until it has been possible to verify the successwritten or restored data is 100% accurate.
